What distinguishes a nonprofit organization? Quality, innovation and caring. Nonprofits share the common traits of being faith-based, fraternal or community-sponsored. They practice a philosophy that’s based upon a ministry of caring and treating each resident as a revered member of their family community. Many have been an integral part of their communities for 25, 50, 100 years and more. Community-based volunteer boards of trustees donate their time and talents to ensure that the organization’s approach to serving and caring for older people is responsible and responsive to local needs. While every organization must cover costs in order to continue operating, nonprofit facilities turn any surplus income back into improving facilities or expanding services, ultimately to benefit the residents or clients themselves. Fundraising and active volunteer programs also help to subsidize quality care and ensure ongoing community involvement and interaction with residents.
As nonprofits, PANPHA members are among the leaders in creating innovative services, programs and environments that value, enable and empower residents and staff. PANPHA members are committed to ongoing education, quality assurance and continuous improvement, and actively support the association’s aggressive efforts to monitor standards on key quality indicators and share best practice information in critical areas.
At a time when long-term care is under intense scrutiny, nonprofit providers are showing that there is a difference when it comes to quality. By consistently providing more hands-on care and developing new, more creative ways to meet the needs of their residents, nonprofits are setting the standard for quality in the field. For example, according to recent federal reports and independent academic studies, nonprofit nursing homes:
- Provide more hours of care per resident day.
- Invest more resources in resident care.
- Average significantly fewer deficiencies.
So, if you need some help - a little or a lot, or if you’re looking for a more carefree retirement living environment, PANPHA members stand ready with a commitment to caring that’s rooted in community and a long-standing mission to serve.
