Choosing quality

While survey and inspection reports can be one indicator of quality, your personal observations and discussions with current residents and staff are crucial to making an informed choice. It’s a good idea to visit several facilities before making a decision. Visit more than once at different times of the day, and learn about the services offered. Talk with residents. Find out how much influence they have over their daily lives and the care they receive. Meet with staff and volunteers, and observe the way they interact with residents, visitors and each other.

Take the time to talk with an admissions representative. Review the admission policy and the residents’ bill of rights. If you have questions about how you will pay for the care, the admissions representative can assist you or direct you to the appropriate agency for assistance.
