Technology Applications
Members heartily embrace the efficiencies and quality of life advantages delivered by new technologies. They believe that if applied properly, it will assure quality of care for their residents.

No longer is technology seen as a distant “Star Wars” like phenomenon as communities actively implement a wide range of information technology applications. Most also believe that the use of electronic health records is vital to assuring quality of nursing care. Members overwhelmingly believe that government can be a key player in growing technologies in the field of long term care by offering seed money and challenge grants to both develop and apply technology in long term care and independent living settings.

The North Star is reached when PANPHA members are:

  • Infusing Information Technology (IT) into care plans, nursing care, and quality assurance.
  • Leading the field in the use of Electronic Health Records.

  • Using telemetrics to flag resident needs before they are evident such as through smart sensors.
  • Providing telehealth for all residents to promote health and encourage preventive care.

  • Engaging telemedicine to bring specialty and diagnostic care to nursing home residents.
  • Offering assistive devices among all settings to foster independence and well-being.

Sample Navigation Markers:

  • Most PANPHA providers use Electronic Health Records and IT for care planning.

  • Telemedicine is used among the majority of rural nursing homes.
